Multifactor Authentication Tip

When banking online, select the option for multifactor authentication. This will require you to enter a password and an authentication code that only you can have in your possession. A possible option might be to have the bank send a security code to your cell phone. This is easy to set up and ads an excellent second level of security for your account.

Router Passwords

Since you needed to make some changes to your home network and couldn’t remember your router password, you decided to reset the device and now you can’t remember the default password. The Router Passwords Database site should help. They update the data very frequently. This is also great if you are helping out a friend set up his home LAN or if you purchased a router from ebay and didn’t receive the documentation. Remember to change the password once you access the router. Leaving it as the default is a very bad idea.

1Password is much more than a password manager for the Mac. It can manage passwords for websites and notes and store you credit card information securely, but it can also do so much more. It really shines when used in conjunction with Safari and/or Firefox. 1Password will automatically fill-in any site login fields once you provide the master password for 1Password. Another great feature is the the applications synchronizes with a companion application on the iPhone. I’ve been using 1Password on the Mac for about 6 months and find it more and more useful everyday.
